Launched on February 1, 2007, BlackPast.org is now the largest free and ungated online reference center on African American history, and the history of people of African descent around the world, currently on the Internet. Featuring 10,000+ pages of content and more than 4,000 individual entries, no other website comes close to matching BlackPast.org’s authority or comprehensiveness.
BlackPast.org has a global audience. In 2012, nearly 2.9 million people visited the website from more than 130 nations around the world.
Advertising opportunities are available on all pages of the website. Some ads can appear in stragetic locations on every one of the website's 10,000 pages or they can be placed on individual pages.
BlackPast.org is an independent non-profit corporation 501(c)(3). It has no affiliation with the University of Washington. BlackPast.org is supported in part by a grant from Humanities Washington, a state-wide non-profit organization supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the state of Washington, and contributions from individuals and foundations.
