Amy Essington is a doctoral candidate at Claremont Graduate University where is completing her dissertation, "Segregation, Race, and Baseball: The Integration of the Pacific Coast League, 1948-1952." She is a lecturer at California State University, Long Beach. Her article "Baseball on the Pacific Coast: The Integration of the Pacific Coast League," will appear in the Fall 2008 issue of Journal of the West. She authored "'She Loved Baseball': Effa Manley and the Negro Leagues", published in Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture (McFarland, 2001). Amy has presented, written encyclopedia entries, and book reviews on topics of race and baseball that include Effa Manley, the Negro Leagues, the West Coast Baseball League, and the integration of Pacific Coast League. She is the executive director of the Western Association of Women Historians.
