Mangun, Kimberley

Kimberley Mangun is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication at The University of Utah. Her award-winning 2005 dissertation, Beatrice Morrow Cannady and The Advocate: Building and Defending Oregon’s African American Community, 1912-1933, focuses on Cannady’s efforts to draw attention to the need for equal rights and liberties in the state during the turbulent 1910s and 1920s. Mangun’s work is part of her ongoing research on the Black press, which includes rediscovering African American women journalists and their careers. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication and Society from the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication.
