Dr. Matthew C. Whitaker is Associate Professor of United States History, African and African American Studies, and Justice and Social Inquiry at Arizona State University. His research focuses on African American leadership, activism and the struggle for racial, economic, and gender equality. He is the author of Race Work: The Rise of Civil Rights in the Urban West (University of Nebraska Press, 2005) as well as journal and encyclopedia articles. Dr. Whitaker is the CEO of the Whitaker Group, L.L.C., a consulting firm that specializes in diversity and education curriculum and instruction training. His commentaries on race, presidential politics, U.S./African relations, and black conservatism among other topics have appeared on NPR, PBS and other media outlets. | |||||
